  • This will be the 14th year in a row tournament has been held. All prizes are guaranteed  
  • Tournament held March 18th 2017, 11am - 2pm.
  • Tournament held on West Side of Falcon Lake. Signs posted off #1 highway to derby site. (View Map).
  • Hot food and drinks served all day by Danny's Whole Hog on the ice!
  • Bait is available for sale at the derby site. All proceedes from bait sales support the St. Amant Foundation
  • Fishing Licenses can be purchased at Falcon Beach Auto Service or Keystone Resort.
    Conservation Pricing as follows:
    • Resident senior (Manitoban 65 and over): FREE
    • Resident (Manitobans ages 16-64): $19.20
    • Canadian resident (ages 16 and over): $28.00
    • Non-resident (ages 16 and over): $37.85
  • Anglers allowed to enter derby site at 9:00am.
  • Buy two tickets, fish two holes!
  • Portable shacks permitted. But will not be allowed to be set up until the horn sounds for the start of fishing.
  • All fish will be weighed.
  • All holes pre-drilled by derby officials in approximately 4 to 20 foot depth.
  • All tickets issued along with a pail tag. Place tag on your pail to reserve your hole.
  • Washrooms setup throughout derby site.
  • Please bring a container for your fish to bring them to the weigh station alive.
  • Tent and picnic tables provided for seating area.
  • We remind you to dress for the weather conditions. If it is slushy out, be sure to bring your rubber boots or ice cleats.
  • All prizes will be awarded at the Whiteshell Community Club at 3:00pm.

Kids prizes

Each year we hope to get children more involved in the fishing experience.

We'll be handing out prizes and trophies to the kids for any fish they bring in, so make sure to bring the little ones with you!

 

Rules

  • All Manitoba sport fishing rules apply (barbless hooks).
  • No live bait.
  • Anglers must have a valid Manitoba fishing license or Treaty status ID card.
  • 1 hole per entry (1 line per hole) - maximum 2 holes per angler.
  • Anglers may fish any unoccupied hole.
  • Paid contestants who are fishing, and visitor pass holders will be the only ones allowed to enter the Derby site. Visitor passes are extremely limited and must be pre-approved by tournament director prior to the derby date by calling 1-866-676-FISH.
  • To purchase 2nd hole ticket, the 1st ticket must be present at time of sale.
  • Anglers must have ALL tickets clearly visible upon entry, or you will not be permitted to enter the Derby site.
  • All coolers, pails, portable shacks will be checked before entering Derby site.
  • Portable shacks are permitted however no shack shall be erected until the beginning of the Derby (11:00 am).
  • Only holes drilled in Derby grid and drilled by the Derby committee are eligible to be fished.
  • Bring axe or chip bar to re-open holes as the holes are drilled through the ice the day before the Derby. Holes may freeze overnight.
  • No motorized vehicles within 50 meters of Derby site area other then official's vehicles.
  • Competitors must be a minimum of 18 years of age unless they have a parent or guardian fishing with them.
  • Anglers will be allowed to enter fishing area at 9:00 am and may use depth locators to find depth. No line shall go in the water until the beginning of the Derby (11:00 am).
  • Each angler may occupy or reserve only as many holes as that angler has purchased tickets (maximum of 2 per angler).
  • You must be physically present in line to reserve your place.
  • If you have to leave the fishing area for any reason, you must exit and enter through the check-in line.
  • Horn will sound to begin and end the Derby.
  • All walleye in the slot (between 45 cm and 70 cm) must be released immediately and are not to be entered in the Derby.
  • All fish must be weighed-in and released alive (no dead fish).
  • Fish must be brought to the scale in container of water with your pail tag attached. Example: cooler or pail of at least 5 gallon size.
  • Only one prize per entry may be awarded, two tickets - 2 prizes.
  • Absolutely no passing of fish amongst contestants. Incident must be reported immediately for organizer to make his decision regarding disqualification.
  • ID tag must be worn to weigh fish.
  • In case of a tie, fish weighed first will win higher prize.
  • Only the first 120 fish weighed-in are eligible for the hidden weight contest.
  • Hidden weight will be revealed and announced at 2:00pm. The angler who catches the exact hidden weight will be the potential winner.
  • In case of a tie in the hidden weight contest, fish weighed first will be the sole potential winner.
  • No pre-fishing the Derby site for 30 hours before Derby start time.
  • The Tournament Director has the right to delay or shorten the tournament, subject to weather or safety conditions.
  • Should inclement weather or unsafe ice conditions cause Derby cancellation on March 19, 2016, all prizes (excluding hidden weight) will be awarded through a public random draw on March 28, 2016. Time and place will be posted on Derby website or by calling 1-866-676-FISH.
  • Official cancellation notices will be posted on Derby website or by calling 1-866-676-FISH.
  • Contestants do not need to be present to collect prizes, however contestants are responsible for applicable shipping charges.
  • Tickets are transferable and no refunds will be given.
  • Failure to comply with the Derby rules will result in disqualification.
  • Decision of official is final!

With above average seasonal temperatures drawing the big fish into the derby site, anglers had great fishing opportunities by catching and releasing 119 fish! Uncut Angling's Aaron Wiebe returned as weighmaster, weighing in a flurry of catches as soon as the day began. As always we had anglers from all over central Canada, the midwestern United States, as well as Canada's frozen North country! The Hidden Weight was revealed to be 11.70lbs which fell between our 2nd and 3rd place catches. Our 2nd place winner, Rob Malak, had the closest weight which won him a Frabill Headquarters ice shack! Once again the young anglers caught some great fish and won some great prizes, and it was great to see so many female anglers winning prizes from the top 50! We are still calculating St.Amant's total donation, but their 50/50 pot was a whopping $12,465.00 which resulted in a $6,232.50 take home! We also sold out of all our bait, which the proceeds are donated to St.Amant as well! Despite the worst winter many of us can remember,anglers had great fishing opportunities by catching and releasing 140 fish! Uncut Angling's Aaron Wiebe was a busy weighmaster weighing in fish after fish for the entire derby. As always we had anglers from all over central Canada, and even an angler from England and another from Australia! As always we had anglers from all over central Canada but also had participants from South America and Germany! The Hidden Weight was revealed to be 10.05lbs which split the difference between our 2nd and 3rd place catches. Second place winner Matt Smith had the closest weight which won him a Frabill Headquarters ice shack! Once again the Second Hole ticket paid off for angler Alex Warmut. He caught fish weighing 0.48lbs and 0.36lbs to win 45th ($500 cash) and 50th place ($1000 cash)! 2012 The 9th Annual $10,000 Falcon Lake Winter Fish-Off was certainly a once in a lifetime event, with temperatures pushing 24 degrees! Anglers caught and released a whopping 154 fish!In fact, there were 40 fish weighed-in in the first 12 minutes! As always we had anglers from all over central Canada but had participants from as far away as South Africa! With the wildly warm temperatures, I don't think they got a true taste of Canadian ice fishing, but they had a great time! Danny's Whole Hog also proved to be a huge success, all day anglers were raving about how great the food was! As always we had anglers from all over central Canada but had participants from as far away as South Africa!
